Casey's will use a federal grant to increase the availability of biofuels to drivers, reported the Jacksonville (Illinois) Journal-Courier. The Midwestern retailer will receive $5 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to install blended-fuel dispensers at 111 locations in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and South Dakota, the news outlet said. The USDA announced the issuance of roughly $19 million in funding under its Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program to seven fueling companies for the build-out of infrastructure in 22 states aimed at fostering greater access to renewable fuels.

The dispensers will supply gasoline mixed with ethanol. According to the USDA, Casey's aims to increase the amount of supplied biofuel by 50 million gallons each year.

The grants come after the program, which was formed in January 2020, received $500 million in funding through the Inflation Reduction Act.

Approximately 96% of vehicles on the road today, roughly 290 million, are legally approved to use E15. E15 is fully approved for use in cars, SUVs, pickups, vans, or other light-duty vehicles manufactured after the year 2000, according to the USDA.
