Thailand-based PTT Oil and Retail Business has ventured into the health and beauty sector in partnership with Japan’s Sugi Holdings Co., Inside Retail reported.

PTT Oil is the largest fuel retailer in the country, Inside Retail reported, with approximately eight million loyalty members. PTT Oil brands include Café Amazon and the convenience retail business operating under the Jiffy brand.

As part of the collaboration, PTT Oil will leverage its loyalty program and physical footprint, while Sugi will provide its health and beauty products, as well as knowledge and technology.

“Thailand is home to Southeast Asia’s second-largest health and beauty market, valued at 350 billion baht (USD $9.7 billion) as of 2022, with growing consumers who are keen to take better care of themselves,” said Disathat Panyarachun, CEO of PTT Oil and Retail Business.

“Together with international and local strategic partners, [PTT Oil] plans to seize this opportunity by launching a new retail format with ultra-convenient shopping experience … with access to unique and affordable products from Japan, Korea and Thailand,” said Panyarachun.

According to Inside Retail, the new stores are expected to open in the middle of this year.

In March 2023, Café Amazon was part of the Convenience Summit Asia Ideas 2 Go store tour, where attendees were able to see firsthand how leading retailers around the world stay ahead of ever-changing consumer preferences. Founded by PTT Oil more than 18 years ago, Café Amazon sells approximately 400 million cups of coffee per year.

This year, the 2024 NACS Convenience Summit Asia is taking place in Seoul, South Korea, March 5-7. Sites on the Ideas 2 Go store tour include brands such as Emart 24, GS25, and 7-Eleven.
